Nextel Communications Inc. and Motorola Inc. have launched the Motorola i325 IS handset, an intrinsically safe, ruggedized phone that provides off-network communications capabilities. The Motorola i325 IS handset offers Direct Talk, which allows users who are outside of the Nextel coverage area to manually transfer to a two-way radio-to-radio communication mode with a range of up to six miles depending upon specific conditions, such as terrain.
